Betrayal Trauma
Trauma is anything that negatively affects the way we see ourselves, others, or our perspective on life. With each trauma there is a memory, emotion, and negative meaning. We carry this trauma within our bodies and minds. If trauma goes untreated it may result in chronic illness, feelings of powerlessness, hopelessness, stuck-ness, and worthlessness.
For example, Betrayal Trauma could result from
- a loved one's unexpected death
- attack physical or sexual
- to witness abuse
- natural catastrophes
- STD from a supposedly trustworthy partner
- discover signs of addiction to sex by a partner
- parental sexual or physical violence
- financial error in marriage
- gaslighting and dishonesty
Although trauma includes many of the same psychological, physiological, and neurologic symptoms, it is differentiated in two essential ways.
Relationships
If you and your significant other are struggling to make time for each other, find it hard to connect effectively, or cope with anything a little heavier than modern-day stressors, marital therapy (also known as relationship counseling, couple counseling, and couple therapy) may be a key to relationship success.
When it comes to couples therapy its not about either partner being right, its about making the relationship right.
We like to think of a relationship as a separate body from the individuals within the relationship. When this body gets the proper nourishment and care it is bound to thrive. We are committed to providing the necessary tools and principles for your relationship to thrive.
If you are feeling discouraged in your relationship we are here to help. Don't settle for less than what you want. You will find the love you deserve.
Pornography Addiction and Recovery
The diagnosis of pornography addiction is controversial, and not all therapists will acknowledge it.
The label for “addiction” is not what’s important here, but rather the acknowledgment that there are things getting in the way of one being able to live life whole-heartedly.
We see struggles with pornography or any sexual imbalance as a symptom rather than the issue in and of itself. Our goal is to help you identify the roots and patterns that influence your behaviors. You are more than the behavior.
Healing is HOLISTIC.
At Choice Holistic Recovery, we can help you develop the skills and tools to face your sexual addiction. Our approach to a balance of mind, body, and soul has help many people learn how to manage their addiction.
Sound Healing
Sound healing is the use of specific sound frequencies to aid in energetic shifts in the body, spirit, and mind. Sound healing instruments emit harmonic vibrations that stimulate the alpha and theta brain waves. These brain waves are associated with deep meditative and peaceful states that are highly conducive to healing. This same concept is utilized in meditation by regulating the breath, but with sound, it's the frequency that is the agent that influences the shift.
Although in previous years sound healing has been seen as a more alternative path for healing, it is now widely accepted as a viable and research based method of treatment. No prior experience with yoga or meditation is necessary to appreciate the full benefits of sound healing. Come as you are :) We look forward to seeing you.
Yoga Therapy
While any type of yoga can bring health benefits, yoga therapy uses specific yogic practices to improve physical, emotional, and spiritual health. The three primary tools our yoga therapists use are:
Asana (the physical postures)
Pranayama (breathing exercises)
Meditation and guided imagery.
Therapeutic yoga at the heart of our holistic approach, simultaneously working on the body, mind, and spirit.
"Yoga does not just change the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees." - B.K.S Iyengar
Group Therapy
Group therapy is a fundamental pillar of our approach with addiction recovery and trauma.
Although we believe in the power of individual work done in therapy, there is something to be said about the synergy of the group experience. Having the right support system is key to a progressive recovery. Sharing our pain with others is an incredibly vulnerable and sacred experience. By connecting with people who face similar trials and struggles, group members are meant to leave group feeling heard, supported, and empowered.
Our groups can run from 8-12 weeks, and are also ongoing. Calendar and additional information is provided on the group registration forms.
Current groups we are offering (in-person and online):
Foundations of Addiction Recovery (men)
Betrayal Trauma and Shame Resilience (women)
Spiritual Warrior-Holistic Healing through Yoga
EMDR
EMDR is our primary treatment for Trauma
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing.
One way to look at trauma is that is any disturbing life experience that we have been unable to fully process. These unprocessed memories leave physical and emotional imprints in our bodies. That is why trauma is often associated with deep seated negative emotions, physical pain and discomfort, and physical and mental illness.
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation to access these unprocessed memories so that we can access these unprocessed memories and release the weight that these traumas have stored in our bodies.
